How an EV charger install works

An EV charger is a dedicated load, so the first step is a load assessment: we look at what your home already draws — air conditioning, oven, hot water, solar if you have it — and check whether the switchboard and the incoming supply can take a 7 kW or 11 kW charger on top. In the older weatherboard homes around the Sale CBD and along the Raymond, York and Foster Street spine, the board often needs upgrading first to make room for a new circuit and to meet current standards. On the newer Wurruk estates, the boards are usually modern and have capacity, so the install is more straightforward. We run a dedicated circuit from the board to the garage or carport, fit a weatherproof charger where it is exposed, and test it before handover.
